There has been a boom in the number of birds visiting gardens over the past few weeks, BTO Garden BirdWatchers have revealed. As well as some of our feathered favourites, such as Great Tit, Blue Tit and Blackbird, we've seen a big increase in visits from Great Spotted Woodpeckers, who are bringing their young to bird tables seemingly to show them where to get a hearty meal! Starlings too – whose numbers have been in long-term decline – have surged into gardens with scruffy youngsters jostling enthusiastically over fat cakes and other garden goodies.
