A little one joined one of the largest Hedgehog the other night. I think it may be her offspring!
The larger one, 'Blondie', didn't want to share with the little one, so I put out a little dish of Whiskas - and Baby seemed happy again!
Cracking shots Catherine, good to see the young one and the return of the regular.
Fascinating creatures, I just love the pics.
How wonderful - I just discovered a Hedgehog in my garden, unfortunately it was a dead one - well dead!!!!
We have worked out - from our pics and notes - that there must be 5 different Hedgehogs still visiting us (after the death of one of our favourites recently)
The tiny one in the pics made a very loud noise when he couldn't get up the step to be with his mother.
He raised his little nose sky-wards and called 'Yip! Yip! Yip!' about 10 times, before turning back to the step and trying again. That time he was successful though, so he didn't call out any more. We guessed he had had a mini tantrum as he could get to where he wanted to first time!
Kids - the same, whatever the species
On Monday, Monty arrived early (8.30pm), and surprised us by coming in from the left hand side.
We're now sure how he entered the garden, or even if he'd been in it all day from the night before, but he sniffed and nibbled on his way towards the food dish, completely ignoring me, standing at the door!
LOL, just going about his business Catherine.
I am just catching up not been in for a while having been busy, I have a mum and baby hedgehog to, so interesting to watch mum is totally unphased by me but the baby hoglet is nervous and runs if I appear close but he likes my dried worms
Dried worms, Ann? Yeukk!
I was very sad today.
The smallest Hedgehog (pic 3 at the foot) had been moving very slowly and wobbling a lot, so we looked after her in the pitstop all weekend. She ate fairly well and drank too, but today she seemed worse, so we had to take her to the vet's. The vet said she had suffered trauma to her back legs and tail end and there were untreatable internal injuries too, so put her to sleep.
She said the injuries had most probably been caused by a cat, fox, or dog - very sad.
This was Yip early on Saturday - out in daylight, never a good sign.

That's very sad Catherine, poor little thing.
Oh dear, not happy news.
I have been watching what I think is mum and she has come out in the day every day over a week but eating well and drinking, I had considered the hedgehog rescue but will keep a watchful eye if not too late - baby seems ok
