Mountain pansies (Viola lutea) in Teesdale

I was in Teesdale last weekend and just near High Force spotted these beautifully lit mountain pansies

There are 3 colour variations - just here the purple ones dominate but white and yellow ones can also be found in the area.

Oh and had to show you the obliging thrush in the pansy patch as well

They are much more common north of the border and especially in the Western Isles. We don't see large numbers of them down here - possibly because of the soil?

Our last house (in Ayr) was built in what (until 1959) was a meadow, and these little plants kept cropping up here and there in the garden. We often left them, or replanted them where they looked more at home!
