Small Magpie Moth - Eurrhypara hortulata

This beauty flew into a bush and I ran back to the house to grab the camera. Luckily, although it moved on I could still see it.

It took me ages to find the ID because I thought that it might be in one group where I found the Magpie Moth which is very similar but obviously not quite this one. I assumed that it would have to be in the same group... nope, it damned well wasn't!!!

Oh it is a pretty little thing isn't it. Shame we very often miss these little moths, lovely head details showing.

But they are so unhelpful always landing on the underside of things - anyone would think that they didn't realise that they were supposed to make nice photos for us

I have a friend who concentrates on moths and he traps and shoots them, so he millions of shots. Although I would prefer to get them 'in situ' I think that I might look at doing some trapping or there is no way that I will get to see many of them.

Yes, have thought about that myself, the kit isn't too expensive either.
