Olympus E-30, Sigma 50-500mm Lens, Sigma 150mm Macro lens, Zuiko 70-300mm lens, Sigma 50mm F1,4 lens, Extension tube, 1.4x tele-converter, Carbon FibreTripod, Monopod, Vanguard Binoculars, Celestron 80F-ED Scope, Remembird recorder.

Default Golden Oriole, record photo only

Finally got to see one of the Golden Orioles in the wood near my sister's place in Eure et Loir, France, stalked the shy bird for a couple of hours and was treated to a relatively low level fly past, showing the bird in superb detail, but only managed to get the darkest of photos due to the low light level in the wood.

Still really pleased, as it was my target bird for this Spring.

How wonderful - and you managed to record it too!

I'll never forget those clear, flute-like tones. If you get back there tomorrow morning just after 6am, you'll get even better shots as that's the best time to see them!

Too early for tomorrow Catherine, got a long day travelling, so won't be up that early, 7am perhaps. I recorded it using my mobile phone, not bad considering. Also saw another first for me, a Wood Warbler.

Well went back to the wood and got a better recording which I'll upload, but this time only got a fleeting glimpse of it. I have made the little music player work now, so mpeople shouldn't have to download the file to play it.

Thanks Billy, will have to try again next spring for a better one, unfortunately they seem to sing from cover towards the top of trees. Hope you get a chance to see and hear one, as their song is haunting.
