    Default Underground power cable fails

Last night just after 10, our power started blinking out, first one computer, then the other went, then the audio amp, then the TV and lights.

Apparently the noise at our neighbours' house was a sizzling and crackling sound, with a tremor like vibration and a strong smell of burning, a bit like the smell of caps.

The Electrical engineer came out at 11 and called the underground crew, who arrived at 2am. When I got up at 06.45, the job was finished, apparently the main joint and distribution unit has burned out and an adjacent one was close to going, it had heated up the concrete 2ft above so much that it was hot on the surface to the touch.

All credit to the electricity company, that is really fast service.

Wow, scary!! Mind you , I think they've overdone the signs considering that all there is coming up to the signs is a driveway - I'm not sure they actually needed any really
