    Default Marmalade hoverfly - Episyrphus balteatus

    I was surprised to see my Day-Lily and this Teasel head with a number of attentive Hoverflies - it was breezy and rainy and I only had the camera to hand as I had spotted a beetle making its way across the lawn when gardening. Mind you, considering that in the cool they were a little less active than usual, it took me loads of shots - nothing would keep still in the breeze

    I had never before noticed what a lovely 'old-gold' colour the thorax is - they are such stunning little creatures.
