    At this stage, the juvenile reminds me of Bugs Bunny on "Long-Haired Hare" where he does the orchestra conductor thing with long hair, YouTube - Crazy Conductor :-)

    Great photo, Louise - love the way the parent is looking at the sleepy 'Cootling'!

    I always find it difficult to get the right 'shade of black' in Coots' feathers. You've got it just right!

    Oh, you're right - black feathers are a nightmare at the best of times, but the Coots are worse due to the water-reflected light! I have to admit that I did slightly darken this one in photoshop - well, that IS what they actually look like, so I don't think it's cheating
