Default The Duelling Turdi (Turdus merula & Turdus philomena)

I heard a beautiful song from across the road and thought "Wow, that Blackbird has really upped his game" (we have tonnes of Blackbirds around here), until I realised that the song was just too melodious even for a Blackbird.
It was of course, a Song Thrush. We don't normally have them around here which is why I was rather confused, and just to confuse it even more, the Song Thrush song was interspersed by a Blackbird, although poor Mr Blackbird had the second best, lower perch on top of the roof. It was funny though - each singing their little song by turn, but the Song Thrush winning by a mile
... and all watched by a Magpie wondering what the fuss was all about

Nice that you've got the Songthrush Louise, there's one that is singing outside the front of the house nearly every morning when I go out, have to stand and listen for a couple of minutes.

It IS fantastic - not had them before, but I caught him at the back of the house this morning on a neighbours aerial... you do have to stand a listen a bit, don't you? :-)
