Kingfisher in it's natural habitat, on the River Test
Nice capture Alan Well done
Thanks Beryl, I'm working on more Natural, Kingfisher shots.
I haven't seen ours lately. Last pics I got I think was of it hovering
I've been so lucky Beryl, found a male & female on the river Test in Hampshire
That's a cracker of a shot Alan, getting better and better.
I see them together, but hav'nt got them in the same shot, yet. The one in the reeds was the female. Male comming up next.
This was the male on the same day.
I have never seen them together . I know the difference though as the lady wares lipstick.
I'm hoping to get another 79-300mm lens tomorrow. I have been using my 55-200mm today. Much better pics. The APO lens has rear focusing and unless you are u close or have really good light but not bright sun the pics are not sharp. Then I may concentrate on the K F in the brook
Hope you get yours together
I use a Sony 70-400 lens, taken from a portable hide, less than 10 mtrs away.
tripod & remote. Not so happy with the male shot, but will go back soon, and try harder.

That's a lovely shot
Yes. I don't care much for the APO and the macro isn't true but it is useful. The hing with APO Lens is it eliminates the green and purple tinging from sunlight through the branches and twigs but like I said you photo isn't so clear. The work differently on different cameras though . I have a Nikon D80
Sony Nikon, cannon, almost identical, Lens now that's important.
we should choose the lens before the camera. I have a sony macro 2.8 100mm, never use it, because my 70-400 is as good close up. wasted nearly £500 on the macro.
My 70-400 is as good as any prime. If I had a nikon or cannon, i would buy a 400 or 500 mm prime.
Yes. I'm hoping to buy a Nikon 70-300mm .I like my Nikon 55-200mm I took the blue tit on that and it is so clear. I was really please and a long -tailed tit as well they weren't close. I haven't uploaded he LTT.
I am going to spend quite a while in the park by the brook as I know the K F's haunt
Here is one taken with the 55-200mm Nikon lens from quite a long way off. It won a rain challenge comp too

My hide is almost as impotant as the tripod, I hardly ever use my 1.4 converter, as the hide gets me closer, I rarely crop my pics.
Thanks. I have put this years date on it by mistake I think it's 2007. I have it ready to printout for framing. I'll have to re date it
Also I like to obsever the Golden ratio if I can . Rather than stick a photo in the middle
It's better without a converter I have two tripods but when taking action shots they get in the way
I live in a pent hose . That's hide fore me there is a huge tree out side I'm hoping will fill with birds in the summer. Right now it has Pigeons, crows and the odd little birds
I do some times use a tripod for scenery.
I went with my son to take a scene that his grandfather painted . He wanted a photo of the same (of course the bushes had changed a bit) But I definitely needed a tripod for that
The painting was done about 30 years ago and he wanted a then and now scene. We got it too
My Father -in-law id dead now but have may of his paintings of local scenes
Night Alan.
