    If it weren't for their bright orange-red legs they'd be perfectly camouflaged there, Ann!

    (I've often wondered why Nature gave redshanks, Oystercatchers, etc. bright red legs and bills. They can't be user-friendly if you're one of those species, can they? OK, the bright colour may attract a mate, but what good does that do if a predator swoops down and dines on both of you?)
