Not a very good picture as sadly there was only time for one picture but this was spotted at the Sorteney Nature Reserve high in the Pyrenees in Andorra
It was HUGE! - a good 2-3 inches across

Looks like a beautiful thing - pity that you didn't have the chance to take some more shots. I just looked it up and interestingly, according to wikipedia it's of great interest to entomologists as it has many subspecies, often restricted to an individual valley.

I nearly trod on it as it was sitting on the main path through the reserve!
Carol did get one pic as well, although the upper wing is in shade. I'll post that pic when I get her photos pulled over onto my pc.
