eagle owl. dunsop valley, lancashire.

a pair of eagle owls have bred for a third successful year in the trough of bowland in lancashire. presumably escaped birds, they have chosen to make this their nesting site. this year one chick has hatched. they have been afforded police protection. a wildlife protection officer is based there and monitors their every movement.. and ofcourse that of everyone in the vacinity. the male was on show whilst i was there, though the female and chick kept out of sight. they are viewed from across the valley and is quite a distance away, hence the poor quality pictures. its over an hours walk to get to where the owls are... but worth the trek.

Magnificent birds Andy, I had one on my arm for a few minutes at a Birds of Prey day near Warwick a few years back and was awe struck at their size.

thanks.i love them, though not everyone is of the same opinion. they think they are a threat to the existing wildlife , in particular the rare hen harrier.
