    Default Changing the token

    This was at Hampton Loade signal box on the Severn Valley Railway last week.

    4566 cant proceed down the single track line until it gets the token from the signal man.

    Good record, Ross! Haven't been on that railway, though I've been on lots. It looks like a good idea for the future!

    In my youth (when there were only steam trains!) your 'token' was called 'the tablet', don't know why. Indeed, most of the West Highland line was single track, so I remember well the giving and receiving of 'the tablet' at Crianlarich, etc.!

    We were at Exbury on Monday. It has 4 wonderful small steam locomotives, and I've attached two pics - one of 'Naomi' pulling the carriages, and another of the driver replacing the tablet on a post so the next train from the station can proceed along the track.

    The Severn valley is great. Well recommended if a bit pricey.

    I was on the Telford Steam Railway as well, it has 2 stations, and because their line is currently Y shaped, the stations are only 200 yards apart! You have a one way ride, get off for a cuppa in the cafe then can walk back to the first station for another ride

    They have a short miniature line there as well which caused much hilarity when a train derailed and a small child fell in a patch of nettles. Boy did he scream Served him right for not sitting still!

    I didn't know you had such a cruel streak, Ross!

    I've been on steam locomotives at Minehead, the railway in Devon/Somerset which starts with a 'B', the Bluebell Railway at East Grinstead, the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, one at Matlock in Derbyshire and another in the Lake District.

    I have also travelled often on the 'Jacobite' from Fort William to Mallaig, and my sister is very involved with the Dunaskin Railway Preservation Group too...
