Don't think the bottom one was too happy about the top one being on the lake, he came at him like an exocet.

    Wonderful photos, Rolf!

I especially like the first one - so unusual, it reminds me of the decoration on an old Japanese lacquer cabinet of mine. (Doesn't a Heron mean longevity or happiness to orientals too?)

It's not often that you can see such movement in a 'still'!

If you cropped it artistically and entered it into a competition, I'm sure it would win!

Thanks Catherine, it's fairly well cropped already, as they were a fair distance off and because I wanted them both in the photo, I had the lens wider than i normally would, left the corner of the trees in to give it some proportion. Here's the original, reduced in size, unfortunately the quality is not good enough for bringing them in any closer.

    Still think it's special, Rolf!

It would make a great calendar pic - just as you posted that time!

The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

Wow rolf, what a capture, that fact that it has been cropped a bit does not deter from the fact that it is a very interesting action shot captured with great timing, well done, 10/10
