Why do birds like the rain

Do birds like the rain because it cleans their feathers, like saves having a bath. I ask this question because often when it's pouring down I often see birds just sitting out in the open on the perches around my feeders. The Collared Doves and the Wood Pigeon are the ones who do it the most

They probably do like it in the summer, bet they're not so keen in the winter though.

They do like a shower. I used to squirt my Rinneck with a spray bottle until he was drenched. He loved it and tried to catch it in his beak
The female wasn't so keen She prefered to make wine with her berrires.

Babs, I should add that in earlier times I was known to go out onto my flat's balcony when it rained and stand there in my underwear as I loved the rain... and I didn't do it to avoid baths!!!!! Maybe it feels nice to them.. or they are as sad as me :-)

I know... I was a bit of a rebel in my youth. It was in the middle of a London estate, so I may well have had an audience. I didn't consider it at the time - I was young and reckless.... also I had a better body
