    Default Exeter Canal Double Locks

As I walked along the canal bank I heard sirens and bells clanging and the noise was really something. To my surprise the lock keepers stopped all the traffic on the main road to let about a dozen boats through. It an amazing sight all these boats coming along the canal . One of the chaps on a boat shouted to me "Did you get a good photo" so I shouted back "Yes "
I was talking to the lock keeper at Double locks bout putting the photos on a web site and the chap who had called out to me came to see me fore details of the site and my e-mail address as he wanted some photos. I missed the big gate opening but caught them nicely at the double locks They had to wait long side between the two lock whilst the lock was flood before opening the second lock. They were taking their boats to the Exeter docks for the winter . What you see in the video is a once yearly event.

It is a completely different world this canal thing, we had some friends who built a marina on the Shropshire canal, years of hard work, brick walls and red tape, but they got there in the end. I have to say I am a bit of a land lubber and whilst I can take to the water for a short while I could never live say on long boat permanently

Right place at the right time there Beryl

    Yes. Thank you.
I saw a great deal of this flooding of locks etc when in the WRNS but they were huge ships not little boats. I found it rather a nice event
