Apologies for repeating myself Beryl but the year for butterflies is almost over now and I'm afraid my repeat is that 2008 has been close to a disater at least in our area and I'm sure beyond. The number of this butterfly - you picture here - that I have seen this year don't reach a double figure and with the exception of perhaps the Speckled Wood all the others don't either and some I have not seen at all and obviously won't do now.

Also I think we have already mentioned, the Small Tortoishell is in REAL trouble because of a 'fly'.

I have seen two Small Tortoiseshells this year an it's my favorite butterfly. Two Pale Clouded Yellows Large and Small Whites by the dozen, one Brimstone One Painted lady vry few Holly Blues and only a couple of common Blues Handful of Comas.
    Yes a very bad year

Yes, by the way Beryl. I reckon your two Clouded Yellow sightings qualifies you for joining an elite band of very few people having seen this migrant in 2008. Just think one day last year twelve of these beauties flew past me in a short period of time on a quarter mile stretch of coastal path on the Fylde and I received a mention in a report for the largest group seen of this species of butterfly in 2007.

The pale Clouded Yellow flies from early May to late October so there is still time for sightings

Great pictures still waiting to take my first pictures of butterflies. Think it's getting to late now though.

    Thank you Paul

There are still some flying but then the climate down here is the mildest in the country so every thing is later going back or hibernating
