The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

    Default Grey Heron

As I was just walking upstairs and I looked out of the landing window and spotted this heron halfway up the garden sat on an archway, how long it had been there I don't know, anyway I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots through the glass. They seem to have turned out okay

    Nice capture Babs.
Amazing how they can fold their necks up.

Nice one Babs, am I to assume that it's a rare visitor?

Thankyou rolf and Beryl for your comments, not rare to my garden rolf but I have never seen it so near to the house before, it was overlooking the feeders maybe it is thinking of changing it's diet. I had disturbed it earlier on when I was in my hide and it landed at the side of the pond I tried to sneak out of my hide to get a shot of it but it was having none of it and flew off. I was wondering whether it may be a juvenile coming nearer to the house, but I wouldn't know the difference
