after tea, tonight, i decided to go looking for yellowhammers. there is a spot i know where you have a good chance of seeing them. there is a small layby where i usually leave my car then walk along a country lane, listening and looking. anyway the space was full of cars and i was unable to park. this meant me driving a little way further to leave my car. i found a gateway to a field. where i could leave my car ( without obstructing anything). i got out and scanned with my binoculars. two fields away, there was abare tree. something caught my eye. on closer inspection, i was elated to find it was a little owl. (what a bonus).i set off down the road to get a closer look. i met up with two dog walkers, who came with me to see it. unfortunately the owl spotted us and flew to the far side of the field. this resulted in the poor photos. as i watched the owl, a flock of crows created a real commotion. we looked to see them mobbing a buzzard sat on the floor..... brilliant!! next a yellowhammer started to sing in a nearby tree...... even more brilliant!!!.
this was harder to spot than the owl as it was high up in the foliage. i eventually got a decent veiw, but alas no pictures. nevertheless a really good night out....and if i had parked i my usual spot i would have missed the owl!!
