Spotted this little chap as he flew past my head and landed on a bush infront of me
This is something new to me Beryl, in other words can't say I ever knowingly saw a Cardinal Beetle.
Pete.
There are two. The real one has a black head - pyrochros coccinea. This is the look-a-like- Pyrochroa serraticornis.
They are both called The Cardinal Beetle. I have never seen one for real before
Very good pictures.
Would love to see one of these myself, well done.
Thank you Paul.
They are very small fractionally longer then the red UK ladybird
Ooh, didn't know about this one - looks very like a Lily Beetle, just a slightly different shape body, and possibly a little smaller. I hope that none ever land in my garden as I am likely to squash them, mistaking them for the Lily Beetles!
I think they are every where. Bright red if you see one. I thought it was a cinnabar moth at first
