The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

I think this is a Collard Dove is a juvenile and by the look of it it's a very tired juvenile

    Lovely capture.
Perhaps the pigeons coo-cooing kept him awake all night

Interesting Babs. Don't think I've see a juvenile Collared Dove before believe it or not. Obviously don't have the 'collar'. I'm off to look this up in my reference books now.

Some collard birds don't start showing a collar until maturity
I had a Indian Rose ring neck parakeet and his collar doesn't start to show until 18 months and isn't a full until 3 years old

Not sure about collard doves though

    Thanks Beryl and Pete.

Pete as for me thinking it might be a juvenile like you say no collar but when it was next to the other collared doves it's feathers were a duller colour and the end of it's beak was a slightly lighter colour than the rest of the beak also when it landed it was flapping it's wings more than the rest. Hope this helps

Yes. You may find they gain their collars after their first or second molt depending on the time of year they hatch. Like the Goldfinch doesn't get his or her red face until after the first molt, again depending on the time of year they hatch, if late in the year then it will be the second molt.
