Hope to visit the area again this year in August to see the annual repeat of this beautiful carpet of Heather.

The track and summit here is called Clougha Pike, and only on exceptional days when the conditions are perfect, you can see a panoramic view including the mountains in the Lake District, the Isle of Man, and Snowdonia in Wales......some view.

A striking landscape Pete, must get up to Scotland again, really loved it when I last went.

Interesting whats 'on offer' Rolf in our different parts of the country.

Both Beryl and yourself have mentioned Scotland, in Beryl's case she says 'have only views like that on a train to Scotland' yet this delightful area is within a few miles east of my home. The areas where we live all have their different advantages don't they.

very true pete, though a lot of folk seem to think they have to travel afar to get a stunning view, etc. when all the time it can be right on your own doorstep.

By the way Andy, like the dog, yours I assume and still 'with us' hopefully. If ever I would have had a dog good chance it would have been this breed as I really love them. When I was driving for the car parts firm I worked for I had a little model of one which I 'stuck' to my dashboard and he came everywhere with me on my runs. I have no hesitation to admit I'm as soft/soppy as melting chocolate when it comes to animals.

In some ways I cannot imagine living in a city and not seeing mother nature on my doorstep. I'm lucky I only have to walk out of my back garden.

I was brought up with dogs all my life but have never kept one as my wife had a bad experience with one as a child and we have always both worked full-time. One thing that is apparent though is that whatever I learned growing up with dogs must have stayed with me as they know straight away when I meet a dog who is in charge.

What beautiful colours Pete and a lovely scene, is this part of Hadrians Wall.

I remember when I was little and we had a Consul and on the grill at the front of the car along side the AA badge we always had a sprig of purple heather I think we used to go to the trough of bowland a lot.

The start of the walk to Clougha Pike is at the car park at Birk Bank on Rigg Lane in Quernmore which is about three miles from my front door in Lancaster Babs. Like all moorlands it is wild and wonderful and...... I LOVE IT!
