"He's eating and surviving so far and he is running about with those extra legs acting like stabilisers," Mrs Janaway said.

"He's had so much attention he is having a power nap at the moment because he's exhausted but we will making sure he's OK and hopefully he will carry on and survive.

Mrs Janaway said she was gobsmacked when he turned Stumpy over to find out his sex and was confronted by all those legs.

"It was absolutely bizarre. I was thinking `he's got too many legs' and I kept counting `1,2,3,4'."

Well just think about it, with the summers in the UK getting hotter and drier, the ducks could well do with an extra pair of legs to walk to the ever decreasing number of ponds, perhaps it is just evolution.
