    Just after that I could hear the cock crowing far away to the left of middle distance, cows lowing in a field beyond the river, and pheasants near and far on the marshes below. The absence of Virgin expresses on the main line at that time gave an altogether peaceful feeling!

    Thanks, Beryl! Of course that's early in the day, and before the Virgin Expresses hurtle past with their very loud, harsh, mechanical noise! The noise they make is deafening, but still birds seem to love this area! It has quiet (from people) marshland, lots of trees and shrubs, plus the lakes and the river make it almost perfect for them - plus I have lots of feeders for them to dine at in my garden! (Had a Pied Wagtail visit today for first time too!)
