Well, like I wrote - this is a special breed
There are so many Gulls - and I'm hopeless at identifying them!
Any chance of a clue, Crister?:flowers:
Sure, it is named from the area of Italy !! (me think) lol
OK - now off to search for a map of Italy online....:conf40:
Now, Crister, I've tried the name of every Italian area and Googled for anything like those... but no luck :(
Never mind. I'll try again later! :)
Yep, it has really nothing to do with Italy - it is more (like) in the area. LOL it is not easy to give a clue without not "clueing" too much.
In Swedish it is named after it´s head - pic is not that accurat
Well could perhaps be a Mediterranean Gull? Larus melanocephalus
Sure is, in Swedish it´s called a Black headed gull:thumbsup:
Svarthuvad mås Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus
:D
I was misled by your 'Swedish-style' clue, Crister!:bang:
Part of Italy indeed!
Well, I guess the Mediterranean IS around it, but you got me looking at every region of the country....:-HaHaHa
Never mind! I won't be put off. Next time..........;)
Well, that will be the day :D
Try this bird then !:)
Looks like a Buzzard - Buteo Buteo - to me...
[Can't tell if he's Rough-legged (as you cannot see his legs for the snow), or white eyed (as they're shut!) - so I'll just go for the 'Common' species!]
There - I SAID I'd not be put off... even when I'm wrong!;)
and You SAID it:D
Ormvråk Common Buzzard Buteo buteo
Well done, in Swedish it is called a snake buzzard:13:
Oh, thank you! Thank you, Crister!:acclaim:
Time for a new bird then ?
Here we go !
Female Sparrowhawk - Accipiter nisus
OK- next please! (I hope!) :)
catherine you might be on a roll, i think the bird looks cold...
The Lady is hot !
Well done Catherine, not much to go on there.:)
I've seen that backwards glance so often, folks! She scares ME with that look too!
Catherine (alias 'the Hot Lady':-HaHaHa)
Oooh that gave me a laugh, Crister!:)
(Had to have another try as I'm won't be able to be online much over the next week or so - such a busy life.....:-mwheel)
Sparvhök Eurasian Sparrowhawk Accipiter nisus
Again Well done !
Here is the next one !
Actitis hypoleucos common sandpiper maybe?
Not that "common" for sure !
No more ideas on this birds name ?
I'll have a go at Purple Sandpiper, a non-breeding adult.:) Calidris maritima.:)
That is more than close Rolf :D
Skärsnäppa Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima

Cracking bird, don't get them in the UK though, Nucifraga caryocatactes - Nutcracker of the Corvid family .:)
What a lovely bird! I've never seen a Nutcracker - even in a zoo/aviary. :(
Do they NEVER call this way, Rolf?
Just been checking Catherine, apparently we do get the occasional visit, Northern Scotland, East Coast England and apparently South Wales.
and in my garden :D
Nötkråka Spotted Nutcracker Nucifraga caryocatactes
Looks better in reality
As I don´t have a lake in my garden I seldome see this bird visiting:D
I'm going for American Wigeon (f) - Anas americana
I THINK.....
P.S. Why no lake, Crister? With the weather you've had this winter, you could have a skating party on it if you had one!;)
