Why do they keep changing the names of birds Chris....any idea?

The name change is intruging, really. Could be that they (by using dna) find a better place for them and changed their family name accordingly ?

Anyway, of course it was a : Brednäbbad simsnäppa Phalaropus fulicarius NU

That picture was somewhat blurred so it was a good work finding this out.

I think name changes are due to defining between subspecies or some thigh like that

That certainly looks like a Corn Bunting, perhaps it is a name change thing, Swedish name of the Corn Bunting is Kornsparv, the old latin name is Emberiza calandra, but there are different races, clanceyi and buturlini.

Yes....100% Corn Bunting Chris. So we have another one of those confusing name change 'jobs' but I'll leave someone else to research it if thats OK.

Oh is that why it has black tail tips? :)

Gull's are very complicated Beryl and ignored by most birders including me in lots of cases but I do try hard to understand them. This bird will retain its black tail band and won't be seen in full adult plumage for over twelve months.

I see them all the time especially Black headed and you see one looks mainly at the head and the black tail tips threw me out . So here I have learned. Thank you :thumbsup:
I should be a bit more observant really living ten minutes from the estuary and the B H Gull is numerous in the park

I may have posted a photo of a Mediterranean Gull on here before but am going to post one anyway as I'm sure you must have them in your area and they can be overlooked quite easily and mistaken for Black - headed Gull the difference being they are an all white gull quite readily separated from the BHG. The pic I download will have one of each in it to make comparisons. Let me know what you think Beryl and from now on watch the B H Gulls carefully as it is quite exciting finding a Med Gull often with them.

When they named it in Sweden thay didn´t know that it was a woodpecker (it was a "few" years back) so they named it after some crow :-doh
